A Brief History of Chechnya

Chechens are one of the oldest peoples of the Caucasus with a thousand-year history. Archaeological findings indicate that the territory of modern Chechnya was inhabited as early as the Paleolithic era.

Middle Ages

In the Middle Ages, a developed tower-building culture existed in Chechnya. Battle and residential towers built of stone have survived to this day and are unique architectural monuments.

Modern History

In the 21st century, Chechnya is experiencing a period of active reconstruction and development. Grozny has become one of the most modern cities in southern Russia.
